It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once hail began falling from the sky, and Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to us, when we were still young boys: O Anas, pick up some of this hail and give it to me. I handed him the hail, and he began eating it while fasting. I said: Are you not fasting? He replied: Of course (I am fasting); but this is neither food nor drink, rather it is a blessing descending from the sky by which we are purifying our stomachs. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then I came into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him of this incident, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take (this) from your uncle (that is, follow his understanding and practice)."
This chain is da'if (weak).
Abd al-Warith bin Abd al-Samad also transmitted this same report from his father.
Imam al-Bazzar mentioned it with his own chain through Abd al-Samad.
Also, Imam al-Bazzar narrated through Hilal bin Yahya, from Abu Awanah, from Qatadah, from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), that he saw Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) (doing this), and in it this report is mentioned as mawquf.
