Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A son was born to a man from among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He took the child to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his forehead and passed his fingers over it like this; then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated. Later, hair grew on the child's forehead like the hair on a horse. The narrator says: (When he grew up) the boy came to love the Kharijites and joined them, and the hair fell from his forehead. His father seized him and imprisoned him. The narrator says: One day I went to the boy and said to him: "Fear Allah Almighty! Do you not see that the blessing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has fallen from your forehead?" The narrator says: I kept advising him until he retracted his opinion and began to hate the Kharijites, and later that hair of his grew back.
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and the wording is his (al-Tabarani's); its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ali bin Zayd, who has been declared trustworthy.
