بَابُ التَّقَرُّبِ بِالتَّوْبَةِ .

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَى اللَّهِ شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا ، وَمَنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ بَاعًا ، وَمَنْ أَتَاهُ يَمْشِي أَتَاهُ يُهَرْوِلُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ عَطِيَّةُ الْعَوْفِيُّ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever draws near to Allah Almighty by a hand-span, Allah Almighty draws near to him by a cubit (dhira'); whoever draws near to Allah Almighty by a cubit, Allah Almighty draws near to him by an arm's length (ba'); and whoever goes to Allah Almighty walking, Allah Almighty goes to him running."
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Atiyyah al-Awfi, who is da'if (weak).

وَعَنْ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " قَالَ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ ، قُمْ إِلَيَّ أَمْشِ إِلَيْكَ ، وَامْشِ إِلَيَّ أُهَرْوِلُ إِلَيْكَ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ الْحَارِثٍ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Shurayh says: I heard one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: 'O son of Adam, stand up for Me and I will walk towards you; walk towards Me and I will come running to you.'"

وَعَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ الْغِفَارِيَّ ، وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ بِالْفُسْطَاطِ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " مَنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَى اللَّهِ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا ، وَمَنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ بَاعًا ، وَمَنْ أَقْبَلَ إِلَى اللَّهِ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - مَاشِيًا أَقْبَلَ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - إِلَيْهِ مُهَرْوِلًا ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَى وَأَجَلُّ ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَى وَأَجَلُّ ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَى وَأَجَلُّ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُمَا حَسَنٌ .
Yazid bin Nu'aym says: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) saying while on the pulpit in Fustat: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever draws near to Allah Almighty by a hand-span, Allah Almighty draws near to him by a cubit; and whoever draws near to Allah Almighty by a cubit, Allah Almighty draws near to him by a fathom; and whoever comes to Allah Almighty walking, Allah Almighty comes to him running. And Allah Almighty is the Most High, the Most Great; Allah Almighty is the Most High, the Most Great; Allah Almighty is the Most High, the Most Great."

وَعَنْ سَلْمَانَ - رَفَعَهُ - قَالَ : " يَقُولُ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : إِذَا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ عَبْدِي شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا ، وَإِذَا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبْتُ إِلَيْهِ بَاعًا ، وَإِذَا أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ نَافِعٍ الْأُرْسُوقِيِّ ، وَالسَّرِيِّ بْنِ يَحْيَى ، وَكِلَاهُمَا ثِقَةٌ . وَرَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ .
Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this as a marfu' narration: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: 'When My servant draws near to Me by a hand-span, I draw near to him by a cubit; when he draws near to Me by a cubit, I draw near to him by a fathom; and when he comes to Me walking, I come to him running.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Zakariyya bin Nafi' al-Arsuqi and al-Sari bin Yahya, and both of them are thiqah (trustworthy).
