وَرِجَالُ أَبِي يَعْلَى رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ ، وَهَذَا الَّذِي حَمَلَنِي عَلَى سِيَاقِهَا .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for something, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you unable to be like the old woman of the Children of Israel?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the matter of the old woman of the Children of Israel?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) was commanded to set out with the Children of Israel, he lost the way. He asked the Children of Israel: 'What is the reason for this?' The scholars of the Children of Israel told him that when the time of the death of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) drew near, he took a covenant from us in the name of Allah Almighty that when we left Egypt we would take his mortal remains with us as well. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked them: 'Which of you knows where the grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) is?' The scholars of the Children of Israel said to him: 'No one knows where the grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) is, except for an old woman of the Children of Israel.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) sent a message summoning that woman and said to her: 'Tell me about the grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him)!' The woman said: 'No! By Allah! That cannot happen until you give me what I have stipulated.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked: 'What have you stipulated?' The woman said: 'That I be with you in Paradise.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) found this difficult, so it was said to him: 'Give her what she is seeking.' Then that woman took those people with her to a place where water gushed forth and around which there was something like a lake. The woman said: 'Drain the water from this place.' When they did so, she said: 'Now dig this place!' When they dug that place, the bones of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) came out from there, and when they had taken them out, the road before them became bright like the day."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and Abu Ya'la also recorded it; his wording is: "Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (perhaps the original words are:) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a Bedouin, and he honoured him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: 'Come to us.' Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Ask for what you need!' He said: 'Give us a she-camel that we can ride, and goats that my family can milk.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Are you people unable to be like the old woman of the Children of Israel?' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told: 'When Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) set out from Egypt with the Children of Israel, they lost the way. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: What is the reason for this? The scholars of the Children of Israel told him that when the last moments of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) drew near, he took a firm covenant from us in the name of Allah that we would not leave Egypt until we took his bones with us. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked: Who knows about his grave? Someone said: An old woman of the Children of Israel knows. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) sent a message summoning her; she came to him, and Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: Tell us about the grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him)! The woman said: This will not happen until you give me what I have stipulated. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked: What have you stipulated? The woman said: That I be with you in Paradise. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) disliked giving her this (that is, making her this promise), so Allah Almighty revealed to him: Give this woman what she has stipulated. Then that lady took those people with her to a lake-like place where water gushed forth, and she said: Drain this water. They drained the water, and the woman said: Dig this place! They dug and took out the bones of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him), and when they had done so, the road had become clear like the light of day.'" The narrators of Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the 'Sahih', and this is what led me to cite its full wording.

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he was asked for something and he intended to do it, he would say: "Very well"; and when he did not intend to do it, he would remain silent. He would not say "no" to anything. Once a Bedouin came to him and asked him for something, and he remained silent; he asked him again, and he remained silent; he asked him again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as if rebuking him, said to him: "O Bedouin! Ask for whatever you wish!" We felt great envy for that man, and we thought: Now he will ask for Paradise. The Bedouin submitted to him: "I ask you for a mount." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You shall have it." Then he said to him: "Ask!" (that is, ask for something more). He said: "I ask you for provisions for the journey." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You shall have them." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were astonished at this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How great is the difference between the asking of this Bedouin and that of the old woman of the Children of Israel!" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told: "When Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) was commanded to cross the sea, he reached the sea, and the faces of his animals were turned away and they went back. Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked: 'O my Lord! What is the matter?' The Lord said to him: 'You are near the grave of Yusuf; carry his bones with you!' The grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) had become level with the ground (that is, no trace of it remained), and Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) did not know where his grave was. The people said: 'If anyone can know about this, it may be an old woman of the Children of Israel who knows where the grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) is.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) sent a message summoning that woman and asked: 'Do you know where the grave of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him) is?' The woman answered: 'Yes!' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: 'Tell us about it!' The woman said: 'No! By Allah! That will not happen until you give me what I ask of you.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: 'You shall have it.' The woman said: 'I ask you that I be with you in Paradise in the same rank in which you will be.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: 'Just ask for Paradise!' The woman said: 'No! By Allah! I want to be with you.' Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) kept going back and forth with her; then Allah Almighty revealed to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him): 'Give this woman this, for it will not cause you any loss.' So Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) gave it to her; the woman told them about the grave, they took out the bones and crossed the sea." Al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you ask Allah Almighty, ask Him for Jannat al-Firdaws! For it is the 'sirr' (heart) of Paradise. One of you says to his shepherd: 'Make sure that you stay in the 'sirr' (heart) of the valley! For it is the most suitable, and there is more pasture there.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a person seeks refuge from Hell seven times, Hell says: 'O Allah, grant him refuge from me.' And when a person asks for Paradise seven times, Paradise says: 'O Allah, make him dwell in me.'" The narrator says: Or perhaps it was some other word like it.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Yunus bin Khabbab, who is da'if (weak).
