Ibn Ishaq mentioned, among the names of those who took part in the Battle of Badr, Sayyiduna Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) bin al-Nu'man bin Zayd bin Amir bin Sawad bin Ka'b bin al-Khazraj bin Amr bin al-Aws, of the Ansar, from Banu Zafar, a branch of the tribe of Aws.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators up to Ibn Ishaq are thiqat (trustworthy).

Hadith Takhrij«اخرجه الطبراني فى المعجم الكبير (3/19)»
Sayyiduna Qatadah bin al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I went out on a dark night and thought: I should go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), join him in the prayer, and try to keep him company. So I did that. When I entered the mosque, lightning flashed in the sky, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and said: "O Qatadah! Why have you come?" I said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, I wanted to keep you company." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this branch and lean on it as you go. When you go out, it will give you light ten paces ahead of you and ten paces behind you." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "When you enter your house, you will see something like a rough stone among the curtains of your house; that is a devil." The narrator says: I went out from there and the branch lit up for me. Then I struck that thing like a rough stone, and it went out of my house.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Ahmad recorded it within a long hadith that has already passed in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on the hour on Friday in which the acceptance of supplication is hoped for, and also in the chapter on praying in congregation.
Al-Bazzar also recorded it, and the narrators of Ahmad's report that passed earlier in the Book of Prayer are the narrators of the Sahih.

Yahya bin Bukayr narrates: The kunyah of Sayyiduna Qatadah bin al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Uthman. He passed away in the year 23 AH, and Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer. At the time of his death he was sixty-five years old. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Hazmah (may Allah be pleased with him), or according to one opinion, Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Khazmah (may Allah be pleased with him), went down into his grave.
Al-Tabarani recorded it.
