بَابُ فَضْلِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ -
The virtue of Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him)

عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَصَوْتُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ أَشُدُّ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنْ فِئَةٍ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For the polytheists, the voice of Abu Talhah is harsher than a whole company."
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : " لَصَوْتُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فِي الْجَيْشِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ فِئَةٍ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَأَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَرِجَالُ الرِّوَايَةِ الْأُولَى رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
In one narration the wording is: "The voice of Abu Talhah in the army is better than a whole company."

وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ قَرَأَ سُورَةَ بَرَاءَةَ ، فَأَتَى عَلَى هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ : انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا فَقَالَ : أَلَّا أَرَى رَبِّي يَسْتَنْفِرُنِي [شَابًّا وَشَيْخًا جَهَّزُونِي ، فَقَالَ لَهُ بَنُوهُ : قَدْ غَزَوْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حَتَّى قُبِضَ ، وَغَزَوْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَتَّى مَاتَ ، وَغَزَوْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ فَنَحْنُ نَغْزُوا عَنْكَ . فَقَالَ : جَهِّزُونِي ، فَرَكِبَ الْبَحْرَ فَمَاتَ ، فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُ جَزِيرَةً يَدْفِنُونَهُ فِيهَا إِلَّا بَعْدَ سَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ فَلَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited Surah al-Tawbah, and when he reached this passage: "Go forth, whether light or heavy" [al-Tawbah: 41], Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I see that my Lord has commanded me to go forth, whether I am young or old, so prepare my provisions for the journey!" His sons said: "You took part in battles with the Messenger of Allah until he passed away, then you took part in battles with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) until he passed away, then you took part in battles with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and now we will fight in your place." He said: "Provide me with my provisions!" Then he set out on a sea voyage, and he passed away during it. The people could not find any island on which to bury him; such an island was found after seven days, yet during that time his body did not decay.

وَعَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : خَرَجَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ غَازِيًا فِي الْبَحْرِ ، فَمَاتَ فِي السَّفِينَةِ ، فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُ مَكَانًا يَدْفِنُونَهُ فِيهِ ، فَانْتَظَرُوا بِهِ سِتَّةَ أَيَّامٍ حَتَّى وَجَدُوا لَهُ بَعْدَ سَبْعٍ مَكَانًا يَدْفِنُونَهُ فِيهِ ، وَلَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ كَمَا هُوَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) set out to take part in a naval campaign, and he passed away on the ship. The people could not find any place to bury him, so they waited for six days, until after seven days they found a place where they buried him; during that time his body did not decay, but remained just as it had been.

وَعَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ قَالَ : تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : زَيْدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا - وَسِنُّهُ سَبْعُونَ سَنَةً . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَهُوَ مُنْقَطِعُ الْإِسْنَادِ .
Yahya bin Bukayr said: Sayyiduna Abu Talhah Zayd bin Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in 34 AH; Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer. At that time he was seventy years old, and his name is Sayyiduna Zayd bin Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him).

وَعَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ : مَاتَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ زَيْدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، ، وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ، وَمَاتَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً ، وَقِيلَ : إِنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ مَاتَ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَثَلَاثِينَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ مُنْقَطِعٌ مِنِ ابْنِ نُمَيْرٍ .
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr said: Sayyiduna Abu Talhah Zayd bin Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in 34 AH; Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer. At the time of his death he was about seventy years old. According to one view, Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in 32 AH.
