The virtue of Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)

It is reported about Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) that he fell ill, and he spat to his right side, or he intended to spit to his right side (that is, he needed to spit to his right). He said: Since I accepted Islam I have never spat to my right side.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was an ummah, obedient to Allah Almighty, upright (hanif) and a Muslim, and he was not one of the polytheists. The narrator says: One of those sitting with him said: (But these words were said about) Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He said: I have not forgotten. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Do you people know what is meant by ummah? The people replied: No! Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It means the person who teaches people goodness. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Do you know what is meant by qanit? The people replied: No! Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It means the person who is obedient to Allah Almighty.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Hajjaj bin Ibrahim, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Acquire the knowledge of the Qur'an from four people: Ubayy bin Ka'b, Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Mu'adh bin Jabal, and Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mu'adh bin Jabal will be a step ahead of the scholars."
Al-Tabarani recorded it as mursal (with a missing Companion link); its chain contains Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Azhar al-Ansari, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Yahya bin Bukayr said: I heard Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away at the age of 28; someone has stated that it was at the age of 32. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Mu'adh will be a step ahead of the scholars.'" Yahya bin Bukayr said: The word "ratwah" means "rank".
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and it is munqati' (broken) in its chain.

Yahya bin Bukayr said: Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the plague of "Amwas" in 17 or perhaps 18 AH.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is munqati' (broken).

Sa'id bin al-Musayyab said: When Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was 33 or perhaps 34 years old.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as mursal (with a missing Companion link); its chain contains Ali bin Zayd, whose hadith is hasan (good), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Yahya bin Sa'id said: When Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was 28 years old; the one who stated his age as greater says that he was 32 years old.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; it is munqati' (broken) in its chain, and its chain is hasan (good).
