Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Abdullah bin Salam came to me when I had already put my foot in the stirrup, and he said to me: "Do not go to Iraq, for I fear that the edge of the sword will strike you there." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has told me about this." Abu al-Aswad says: I have never seen a day like today, a warrior saying such a thing about himself.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar. The narrators of Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih, except Ishaq bin Abi Isra'il, who is thiqah (trustworthy) and ma'mun (reliable).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! On the day of Uhud, when I was held back from martyrdom, you said to me that martyrdom would come later." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How will you be when this is dyed by this?" and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved his hand towards his beard and his head. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Since you have made clear to me what you have made clear, this is not a matter for patience; rather, it is a matter for glad tidings and honour."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Kaysan, who is da'if (weak).

Abu Salih al-Hanafi reports the following statement of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream, and I complained to him of what I was facing from his Ummah, in the way of deviation and bitter hostility, and I began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali! Do not weep! Turn and look." When I turned and looked, there were two men climbing upwards, and there was a stone with which the two of them were being crushed, until they would return to their former state again. The narrator says: I went to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as I used to go to him every day, until, when I was at the place of the Kharrazin, I met some people, and they told me: "The Commander of the Faithful has been martyred."
Abu Ya'la recorded it in this way; however, the one who saw the dream was perhaps Abu Salih, who saw this dream concerning Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and of the two men he saw, one was Ibn Muljam, the killer of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and the other was his accomplice. And Allah knows best. The rest of the narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
