Abu al-Tufayl narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came while Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was sleeping in the dust, and he said: "The most fitting of your names is Abu Turab (father of dust); you are Abu Turab."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) the kunyah Abu Turab, and this kunyah was the most beloved of all to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Ahmad and others recorded it as part of a long hadith which will come later in the chapter on the death of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and his killer; the narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
