Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I remember about us that on the occasion of the Battle of Badr we were seeking shelter with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was the closest of us to the enemy, and on that day he was among the fiercest of people in battle.
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded this narration, and their wording is: "It is mentioned about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked about where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the occasion of the Battle of Badr, and he said: On the day of Badr, the strongest of us (or: the one most hard-pressed) was the one who was beside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been given superiority over other people in four respects: generosity, bravery". After this the narrator mentioned the complete hadith, which has already passed in the Book of Marriage.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).
