The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her), says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have two neighbours; the door of one of them is directly opposite my door, and the door of the other is some distance from my door, but his wall is closer. So with which of the two should I begin? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Begin with the one whose door is directly opposite your door." (Al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is in the Sahih without this wording.
Abu Ya'la recorded it; the wording is that of Ahmad, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Uwayd bin Abi Imran, and he is matruk (abandoned).
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have two neighbours; to which of them should I send a gift? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To the one of them whose door is closer to you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Mas'adah bin al-Yasa', and he is a kadhdhab (liar).
