Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man from the people of Paradise will come to you now." The narrator says: Then a man of the Ansar appeared, drops of water dripping from his beard from his ablution, and he was holding both his sandals in his left hand. The next day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said words like that, and the same man came as he had the first time. On the third day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing, and the same man appeared in the same state as before. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rose (from his sitting), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) followed that man and said: "I have quarrelled with my father, and I have sworn that I will not go to him for three days. If you think you can give me shelter at your place, then do so." The man said: "All right." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) related that he stayed with that man for three days, and he did not see him offering voluntary prayer at night, except that whenever he woke up and turned over in his bed, he would remember Allah and say the takbir, and then he would get up only for the Fajr prayer. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: However, I only ever heard him say good things. When the three days had passed and I was about to think little of his deeds, I said: "O servant of Allah, there is no anger or estrangement between me and my father. The real matter is that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to us three times: 'A man from the people of Paradise will now come before you,' and all three times it was you who appeared. So I decided to come to your place to examine your deeds and follow your example, but I have seen that you do not do many deeds. So how did you reach the rank that the Messenger of Allah spoke of?" He said: "It is nothing but what you have seen." The narrator says: When I turned to leave, he called me back and said: "It is nothing other than what you have seen, except that I do not find in my heart any deceit toward any Muslim, and I do not envy anyone for any good that Allah Almighty has granted him." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is what has brought you to this rank, and this is what we are not able to do."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar, except that in place of "a man" he said that Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, and at the end he said that Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It is nothing but what you have seen, O my nephew, except that I have never spent a night holding a grudge against a Muslim," or some similar words that he said. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, and so is one of the two chains of al-Bazzar, except that the wording of the hadith is that of Ibn Lahi'ah.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man from the people of Paradise will come before you." Then Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) came. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this for three days, and each time it was Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) who came.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Qays al-Raqashi; al-Uqayli says: His hadith is not corroborated. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: I do not know which hadith he meant, whether this one or some other. The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
