It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the sun rises from its west (the direction of sunset), Iblis will fall down in prostration and call out loudly: 'O my God! Command me, and I am ready to prostrate to whomever You will!'" (He (peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "Then his devils/followers will gather around him and say: 'O our master! What is this humility and pleading?' He will say: 'I only asked my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, for respite until the known time (the appointed time), and this is that known time (which has arrived).'" He said: "Then the Beast of the Earth (the creature of the earth) will emerge from a crevice in (the hill of) Safa, and it will place its first step in Antioch. Then it will come to Iblis and slap him."
Al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator named Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Zibriq, who is da'if (weak).

Abu Zur'ah bin Amr bin Jarir narrates: Three Muslim men sat with Marwan in Madinah and listened to what he said. He spoke about the signs (that will appear before the Hour), saying that the first of them would be the emergence of the Dajjal. Then those people got up and went to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and related to him what they had heard from Marwan regarding the signs that will appear before the Hour. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What Marwan has said is not correct. I have memorized something from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on this matter, and I have not forgotten it. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The first of the signs to appear will be the rising of the sun from the west, and the Beast of the Earth will emerge in the forenoon. Whichever of the two comes first, the other will follow right after it.'" Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who used to read the (earlier) scriptures, said: "I think the first of them to appear will be the sign of the sun rising from the west. That is because whenever it sets, it comes beneath the Throne, prostrates, and then asks permission to return, and it is given permission to return. When Allah Almighty decides that it should now rise from the west, the sun will do as it used to do: it will come beneath the Throne, go into prostration and ask permission to return, but it will receive no answer. Then it will again ask permission to return, and it will receive no answer, until as much of the night has passed as Allah wills, and the sun realizes that even if it were now given permission to return, it would not be able to reach the east. Then it will say: 'O my Lord! How far the east is! How will I now reach the people?' Then, when the horizon becomes like a ring, it will ask permission to return, and it will be told: 'Rise from where you are.' So it will rise upon the people from the west." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "On the day some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or earned some good through its faith." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The opening part of this report is mentioned in the Sahih.
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
