Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates, as a marfu' hadith traced back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "The Beast of the Earth will emerge and mark people on their noses. Then they will remain in that state, until a man buys a camel and someone says: 'From whom did you buy it?' He will reply: 'I bought it from a man who had been branded on the nose (i.e. marked).'"

It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "Shall I not show you the place about which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'I think the Beast of the Earth will emerge from it'?" Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) struck with his staff the crevice in Mount Safa and said: "That creature will have feathers and fur (or fine down). One third of it will come out at the speed of a swift horse running for three days and three nights. It will pass by the people, and they will flee from it to the mosques, and it will say to them: 'Do you think the mosques will save you from me?' Then it will begin to mark them. The people will be brought to the markets, and it will say: 'O disbeliever! O believer!'"
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Sarihah, that is, Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Beast of the Earth will emerge at three different times. Once it will emerge in the farthest part of Yemen, until mention of it spreads among the people of the desert, but it will not be mentioned in the towns. Then after that it will remain hidden for a long time. Then it will emerge a second time near Makkah, and at that time it will be mentioned in the desert and also in Makkah. Then it will remain for a long time. Then it will come upon the people suddenly in the mosque that is the greatest of Allah's mosques in sanctity before Allah Almighty, the best of them and the most honoured before Allah Almighty, and that is al-Masjid al-Haram. Nothing will alarm the people except that it is at one side of the mosque. It will come from the space between the Black Stone and the Station of Ibrahim towards the gate of Banu Makhzum; it will come on the right side of the mosque. The people will scatter away from it, while a group of Muslims will stand firm before it, knowing that they cannot escape Allah Almighty. It will come out before them shaking the dust off its head. It will appear and make their faces shine, until when it leaves them their faces will be like glittering stars. Then it will go off through the earth; no pursuer will be able to catch it, and no one fleeing will be able to escape it. Even a man will stand up seeking protection from it through prayer, and it will come to him and say: 'O so-and-so, now you are praying?' Then it will come at him from the front and put a mark on his face, and then go away. Then the people will live alongside one another in their homes and on their journeys, they will be partners in wealth, and the disbeliever will be distinguished from the believer, to the extent that the believer will say to the disbeliever: 'O disbeliever, pay me my due,' and the disbeliever will say to the believer: 'O believer, pay me my due.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Talhah bin Amr, who is matruk (abandoned).

This report is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him); the narrator says: I think he narrated it as a marfu' hadith. (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "The Beast of the Earth will emerge from the greatest mosque. While the people are there, the earth will move, and while they are in that state, it will split open." Ibn Uyaynah says: It will emerge when the ruler of the time sets off from Muzdalifah; those who go ahead of the pilgrims have been appointed for this very reason, so that they may inform the people that the Beast of the Earth has not yet emerged.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
