Abu Salamah and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give charity, for I intend to dispatch an expedition." Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have four thousand; two thousand of them I lend to my Lord, and two thousand are for my family." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty bless you in what you have given and bless you in what you have kept back." A man from the Ansar spent the night (working) and earned two sa' of dates. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have earned two sa' of dates; one sa' is for my Lord and one sa' is for my family." The narrator says: The hypocrites criticised him and said: "He made a payment like Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) only to show off." (The narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) They said: "Are Allah and His Messenger not in no need of this man's one sa'?" Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Those who find fault with the believers who give charity voluntarily, and with those believers who find nothing but the earnings of their own toil," to the end of the verse.
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it with two chains, one of which is connected (muttasil) and is reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), and the other is reported from Abu Salamah and is mursal. Imam al-Bazzar says: We have not heard of anyone who narrated it with a connected chain from the narration of Umar bin Abi Salamah except Talut bin Abbad. Its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Abi Salamah, whom al-Ijli, Abu Khaythamah and Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Shu'bah and others declared him da'if (weak). The rest of the narrators of both reports are thiqat (trustworthy).

Hadith Takhrij«اخرجه البزار فى المسند (2216) ، أخرجه البحر الزخار المعروف بمسند البزار 10 - 18 برقم: 8672»
It is reported about Sayyiduna Abu Aqil (may Allah be pleased with him) that he spent the night carrying loads on his back in return for two sa' of dates. Then he took one of the two sa' home so that his family could make use of it, and brought the other so that he might seek nearness to Allah Almighty through it. He brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Scatter it among the charity." The hypocrites spoke about him, mocking him: "Was this man not in no need of seeking nearness to Allah Almighty with a single sa' of dates?" Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse concerning it: "Those who find fault with the believers who give charity voluntarily, and with those believers who find nothing but the earnings of their own toil." These are two verses.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it; its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except for Khalid bin Yasar: I have not found anyone who declared him trustworthy or criticised him.

Sayyidah Umayrah bint Sahl (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: This Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) is the man of the two sa' whom the hypocrites criticised. She narrates: Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a sa' of dates and with his daughter Umayrah, and presented those dates to him. Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have a request of you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is it?" He said: "Pray to Allah Almighty for blessing for me and for this daughter of mine, and pass your hand over her head, for I have no child besides her." She narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his blessed hand on my head, and I swear by Allah that I felt the coolness of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) hand on my liver.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Unaysah bint Adi, whom I do not know; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
