Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: Previously we used to refrain from praying for forgiveness for those who commit major sins, until we heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting this verse: "Indeed, Allah will not forgive that partners be ascribed to Him, and He will forgive whatever is less than that for whomever He wills." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "I have reserved my special supplication for the intercession for those of my Ummah who commit major sins." (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:) Previously we used to hold back regarding many matters; afterwards we began to speak about them and we held hope (that they would be forgiven).
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Harb bin Surayj, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I have a nephew who does not refrain from committing what is forbidden." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is his religion?" The man said: "He affirms the Oneness of Allah Almighty and he prays." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then ask him to give you his religion; if he refuses, then buy it from him." The man asked his nephew for his religion, and he refused. The man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about this. He said: "I have found that he holds on tightly to his religion." So this verse was revealed about it: "Indeed, Allah Almighty will not forgive that partners be ascribed to Him, and He will forgive whatever is less than that for whomever He wills."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Wasil bin al-Sa'ib, who is da'if (weak).
