Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! This man has stolen a camel's saddle-cloth (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) an animal's saddle-cloth." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think that he did it." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! He has stolen." Again the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think that he did it." This continued until the man testified against himself several times. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take him away and cut off his hand, then bring him back to me." They took him away and cut off his hand, then brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "Woe to you! Repent to Allah Almighty." He said: "I repent to Allah Almighty." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, accept his repentance."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Imam al-Sha'bi narrates: Sharahah al-Hamdaniyyah came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "I have committed fornication." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Perhaps you are saying this in a fit of passion? Perhaps you saw this in a dream? Perhaps you were forced?" Each time the woman replied: "No."
