Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you see your brother who has fallen into a sin, do not become helpers of Satan against him by saying: "O Allah, disgrace him! O Allah, curse him!" Rather, ask Allah Almighty for well-being. For we, the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), would not give any opinion about anyone until we came to know in what state he died. If his end was good, we knew that he had attained good; and if his end was bad, we feared for him on account of his deeds.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the narrator Abu Ubaydah did not hear from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him).

Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not speak ill of him." The narrator says: That is, (he said this) about Sayyiduna Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains al-Walid bin Abi Thawr, who is da'if (weak).
