Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched an expedition, and they took spoils of war. Among them was a man who said: "I am not one of them. I was in love with a woman from among them, and I came to join her. Allow me to look at her, then do with me whatever you see fit." Then he came to a tall, wheat-complexioned woman and said to her: "Hubaysh, accept Islam before life comes to an end." (Then he recited these verses:) "Do you remember when I sought you and found you at Halbah, or reached you at al-Khawaniq? Is it not right that a lover be granted his wish, who took upon himself travelling through most of the night and the heat of the day?" The woman said: "Yes, may I be sacrificed for you." Then they brought him forward and struck off his neck. The woman came and fell upon him; she gasped once or twice and then died. When they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Was there not a single merciful man among you?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Isam al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him), who had the honour of being a Companion, narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched an army or an expedition and said to them: "When you see a mosque or hear a muezzin from somewhere, do not kill anyone." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us on an expedition and gave us this order. We were travelling through the land of Tihamah when we came upon a man driving the camels of some women. We offered him Islam and asked: "Are you a Muslim?" He said: "What is Islam?" We told him about it, and he was not familiar with it. He asked: "If I do not do so, what will you do?" We said: "We will kill you." He said: "Will you give me time to go to those women?" We said: "Very well", and we could catch up with him. The man went, and there was a woman in her litter. The man said: "O Hubaysh, accept Islam before life comes to an end." The woman said: "I accept Islam ten times and nine times, one after another." Then he recited these verses: "Do you remember when I sought you and found you at Halbah, or reached you at al-Khawaniq? Is it not right that a lover be granted his wish, who took upon himself travelling through most of the night and the heat of the day? So there is no sin upon me for having said, when our families were together: reward me with love before some hardship befalls; reward me with love before separation grows distant and the commander takes the departing beloved far away." Then he came to us and said: "Now do what you have to do." We brought him forward and struck off his neck. Then the other woman came down from her litter and fell upon him until she died. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded the first part of this narration.
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it, and the chains of both are hasan (good).
