Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), an ally of theirs from the Ansar, and Abdullah bin Atik to Ibn Abi al-Huqayq so that we might kill him. We set off and reached Khaybar at night. We went to the various doors there and locked them from the outside; then we gathered all the keys and threw them away. Then we climbed the date palm, and Abdullah bin Atik and I reached Ibn Abi al-Huqayq's stairway. Abdullah bin Atik spoke, and Ibn Abi al-Huqayq said: "May your mother be bereaved of you! Are you Abdullah? What are you doing here?" (Then he said to his wife:) "Get up and open the door, for at this hour a noble man does not turn away anyone who comes to his door." The woman got up. I said to Abdullah bin Atik: "You must deal with him." He drew his sword against him. The woman wanted to scream, so I intended to attack her, but then I remembered the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade killing women and children, so I held back. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I went in to him in his upper room. In the darkness of the night I paused, seeing his fair complexion. When he saw me, he took hold of a pillow and tried to shield himself with it. I raised the sword intending to strike him, but the ceiling of the room was low, so I could not do so; so I thrust it into him. Then I came out. My companions asked: "Have you done the job?" I said: "Yes." Then he went in and stood over him. Then we left that place and came down the stairway. Abdullah bin Atik fell from the stairway and said: "Oh, my leg! My leg is broken!" I said to him: "Nothing has happened to your leg." Then I put down my bow and picked him up; Abdullah was a short, slight man. I set him down, and there was no harm to his leg. We set off until we reached our companions. Meanwhile the woman cried out: "Danger!" and the people of Khaybar began to gather. Then I remembered that my bow had been left on the stairway. I said: "By Allah, I will go back and I will certainly bring my bow." My companions said: "The people of Khaybar are gathering because of his killing." I said: "I will not go back until I have taken back my bow." Then I returned, and the people of Khaybar had gathered, and the only thing they were talking about was who had killed Ibn Abi al-Huqayq. Whatever person I saw, or whoever looked at me, I too asked just as they did: "Who has killed Ibn Abi al-Huqayq?" until I reached that stairway. I climbed it along with the people, then I took hold of my bow and rejoined my companions. We travelled all night and halted during the day. When we halted during the day, we would send a scout who would survey the situation for us, until we came near Madinah. I was at the place called al-Bayda', and I was surveying the situation for them. Then I waved my garment to them, and they came down. They had set off moving swiftly, and I, coming along behind them, kept catching up with them, until in this way we reached Madinah. My companions asked me: "Did you see something?" I replied: "No, but I saw the hardship you had to face, so I wanted fear to spur you on." When we reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was addressing the people at that time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These faces have succeeded." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, may your face too be successful." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you killed him?" We said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for the sword with which he had been killed, and he said: "This is his food, present on the edge of the sword."
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains Ibrahim bin Isma'il bin Mujammi', and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The men whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent to kill Ibn Abi al-Huqayq are these: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), an ally of theirs, and a man belonging to the Ansar. These people reached Khaybar at night. They went towards their doors, and we locked them from the outside. Ibn Abi al-Huqayq's wife said: "This is the voice of Abdullah bin Atik." He said: "Open the door." The woman opened the door, and Abdullah bin Atik and I went in. Abdullah said: "You deal with her." I stepped forward to strike the woman with the sword, but then I remembered that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden killing women and children, so I held back from her. Ali bin al-Madini says: This is Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him); he is not the Juhani from whom Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ibrahim bin Isma'il bin Mujammi', and he is da'if (weak).
