Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was besieging the fortress of Ta'if, I let myself down with the help of a rope and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "How did you come down?" I said: "I let myself down with the help of a rope." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Abu Bakrah (that is, the one with the rope)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Abu al-Minhal al-Bakrawi, whom I do not know; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Ibn Shihab, in naming those who were martyred at the Battle of Ta'if, mentioned, from the Ansar, Sayyiduna Thabit bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him); this Tha'labah is the one who is called "al-Jadh'". And from the Ansar, from the branch of Banu Amr bin Awf, from the branch of Banu Mu'awiyah, Sayyiduna Ruqaym bin Thabit bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Tabarani recorded both of these reports, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Urwah, in naming those who were martyred on the day of Ta'if, mentioned, from the Ansar tribe of Banu Salim, from its branch Banu Haram, Sayyiduna Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him), who is called "al-Jadh'". Besides him, from the Ansar tribe of Banu Amr bin Awf, from its branch Banu Mu'awiyah bin al-Harith, Sayyiduna Ruqaym bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna Thabit bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Tabarani recorded both of these reports; the chain of both contains Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness, and his hadith is hasan (good).
Muhammad bin Ishaq, in naming those who were martyred at the Battle of Ta'if, mentioned Sayyiduna Julayhah bin Abdullah bin Muharib bin Nashib bin Sa'd bin Layth (may Allah be pleased with him). Besides him, from the Ansar tribe of Banu al-Aws, Sayyiduna Ruqaym bin Thabit bin Tha'labah bin Thawban bin Mu'awiyah. And besides them, from Quraysh, from the branch of Banu Umayyah bin Abd Shams, Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Sa'id bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Tabarani recorded both of these reports, and the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).
Al-Tabarani said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah bin al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Amr bin Makhzum was the paternal half-brother of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). His mother's name was Atikah bint Abd al-Muttalib, who was the paternal aunt of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He accepted Islam at the time of the Conquest of Makkah: he met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam, and then, taking part in the Battle of Ta'if alongside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he drank the cup of martyrdom.
