Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her); this was after the Battle of Uhud. He recited these verses: "O Fatimah! Take this sword, which is not blameworthy, for I am neither a coward nor base. I have striven to the utmost in supporting Ahmad (peace and blessings be upon him) and in seeking the pleasure of the Lord, (the Lord) who has knowledge of the deeds of the servants." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you have fought well, then Sahl bin Hunayf and Ibn al-Simmah have also fought well." The narrator says: He mentioned another person in the narration, whom the narrator Mu'alla forgot. Then Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: "O Muhammad! By your father, this is true fellowship." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Jibril! He (i.e. Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him) is from me." Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: "And I am from you both."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Mu'alla bin Abd al-Rahman al-Wasiti, who is extremely da'if (weak); Ibn Adi says: "I hope that there is no harm in him."
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her); this was after the Battle of Uhud. He said: "Hold this sword of mine! I have struck well with it today." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you have fought well, then Asim bin Thabit, Sahl bin Hunayf and al-Harith bin al-Simmah have also fought well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ayyub bin Abi Umamah; al-Azdi says: "He is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected)."
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: After the Battle of Uhud, Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "Take this sword, which is without blame!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you have fought well, then Sahl bin Hunayf and Abu Dujanah Simak bin Kharashah have also fought well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
