It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he used to say: The people of Badr numbered three hundred and thirteen, of whom seventy-six were Muhajirun. The battle of Badr took place on the seventeenth of Ramadan, on a Friday.
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, though he (al-Bazzar) reported the wording: "three hundred and ten-odd." The narrator says: The Ansar numbered two hundred and thirty-six, and the banner of the Muhajirun was with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Tabarani recorded all of these narrations; their chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, and he is a mudallis.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The battle of Badr took place on the twenty-seventh of Ramadan.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, and he is a mudallis.
Sayyiduna Amir bin Abdullah al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The morning of Badr was on a Monday, the seventeenth of Ramadan.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The number of the people of Badr was the same as the number of the companions of Talut when they fought Jalut, namely three hundred and seventeen.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "(On the occasion of Badr,) the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) numbered (about) three hundred."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Yahya bin Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani, and he is da'if (weak).
A long hadith is reported from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They, meaning the polytheists, (how many are they?) Come, so that we may count ourselves too (to see how many we are)." (The narrator says:) We were three hundred and thirteen men. We informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of this and he was pleased by it; he praised Allah Almighty and said: "This is the number of the companions of Talut." After this the narrator mentioned the whole hadith.
This narration has already passed at the beginning of the chapter on the battle of Badr, along with the discussion of it.
