بَابُ تَكْسِيرِهِ الْأَصْنَامَ

عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ : انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَالنَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا الْكَعْبَةَ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اجْلِسْ " . وَصَعِدَ عَلَى مَنْكِبَيَّ ، فَذَهَبْتُ لِأَنْهَضَ بِهِ ، فَرَأَى مِنِّي ضَعْفًا ، فَنَزَلَ وَجَلَسَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : " اصْعَدْ عَلَى مَنْكِبَيَّ " ، قَالَ : فَصَعَدْتُ عَلَى مَنْكِبَيْهِ قَالَ : فَنَهَضَ بِي قَالَ : فَإِنَّهُ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيَّ أَنِّي لَوْ شِئْتُ لَنِلْتُ أُفُقَ السَّمَاءِ ، حَتَّى صَعِدْتُ عَلَى الْبَيْتِ ، وَعَلَيْهِ تِمْثَالُ صُفْرٍ أَوْ نُحَاسٍ ، فَجَعَلْتُ أُزَاوِلُهُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ ، حَتَّى اسْتَمْكَنْتُ مِنْهُ ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اقْذِفْ بِهِ " . فَقَذَفَ بِهِ فَتَكَسَّرَ كَمَا تَتَكَسَّرُ الْقَوَارِيرُ ، ثُمَّ نَزَلْتُ فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - نَسْتَبِقُ ، حَتَّى تَوَارَيْنَا بِالْبُيُوتِ ; خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَلْقَانَا أَحَدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I came to the Ka'bah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sit down." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) climbed onto my shoulders. I tried to stand up, but he saw weakness in me, so he came down. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down and said: "Climb onto my shoulders." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I climbed onto the shoulders of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up. I felt that if I wished, I could reach the horizon of the sky. I climbed onto the top of the House. There were some images made of brass or copper there. I worked them loose from the right side, the left side, the front and the back, until, when I had got hold of it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Throw it down." I threw it down and it broke just as something made of glass breaks. Then I came down, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I went off walking quickly until we were hidden from view among the houses, fearing that someone from among the people might meet us.
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : كَانَ عَلَى الْكَعْبَةِ ، أَصْنَامٌ فَذَهَبْتُ أَحْمِلُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَلَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ ، فَحَمَلَنِي فَجَعَلْتُ أَقْطَعُهَا ، وَلَوْ شِئْتُ لَنِلْتُ السَّمَاءَ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَابْنُهُ ، وَأَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَزَادَ بَعْدَ قَوْلِهِ : حَتَّى اسْتَتَرْنَا بِالْبُيُوتِ ، فَلَمْ يُوضَعْ عَلَيْهَا بَعْدُ - يَعْنِي مِنْ تِلْكَ الْأَصْنَامِ - وَرِجَالُ الْجَمِيعِ ثِقَاتٌ .
In one narration the words are: There were idols in the Ka'bah. I began to lift the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but I was not able to. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lifted me, and I broke them. If I had wished, I could have reached the sky.
Ahmad and his son recorded it, and Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it. After the words "until we hid among the houses" he added: "After that, they were not placed on it again", meaning those idols were not placed there. The narrators of all of these reports are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْبِ ; أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَسَّ صَنَمًا ، فَتَوَضَّأَ . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ صَالِحُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Buraydah bin al-Husayb (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touched an idol, and then he performed ablution.

وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَشْهَدُ مَعَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَشَاهِدَهُمْ قَالَ : فَسَمِعَ مَلَكَيْنِ خَلْفَهُ ، وَأَحَدُهُمَا يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ : اذْهَبْ بِنَا حَتَّى نَقُومَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : فَقَالَ : كَيْفَ نَقُومُ خَلْفَهُ وَإِنَّمَا عَهْدُهُ بِاسْتِلَامِ الْأَصْنَامِ قَبْلُ ؟ قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَعُدْ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ يَشْهَدُ مَعَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ مَشَاهِدَهُمْ . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، وَهُوَ سَيِّئُ الْحِفْظِ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to attend the gatherings of the polytheists along with them. He heard the voices of two angels behind him; one of them was saying to the other: "Come with us so that we may stand behind the Messenger of Allah." The other angel said: "How can we stand behind him when he only recently touched the idols?" The narrator says: After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never again attended the gatherings of the polytheists.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, who has a poor memory. The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
