بَابُ تَمَنِّي الشَّهَادَةِ

عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَا مِنَ النَّاسِ نَفْسُ [ مُسْلِمٍ ] يَقْبِضُهَا رَبُّهَا - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - تُحِبُّ أَنْ تَعُودَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَأَنَّ لَهَا الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ الشَّهِيدِ " .
وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَيْرَةَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " [ لَأَنْ ] أُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِي أَهْلُ الْمَدَرِ وَالْوَبَرِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَيْرَةَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " [ لَأَنْ ] أُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِي أَهْلُ الْمَدَرِ وَالْوَبَرِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Umayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Of all the Muslims among the people whose souls their Lord takes, none of them would like to return to you, even if they were given the world and everything in it, except the martyr." Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Umayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That I be killed in the path of Allah is dearer to me than that all the people of the towns and of the desert should be mine."

وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - غَزْوَةً فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اللَّهُمَّ غَنِّمْهُمْ وَسَلِّمْهُمْ " . قَالَ : فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا .
قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - غَزْوًا ثَانِيًا فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " .
قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ غَزْوًا ثَالِثًا فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ هَذِهِ فَسَأَلْتُكَ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقُلْتَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " فَسَلِمْتُ وَغَنِمْتُ ، فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ قَالَ : فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا - فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ - وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ بِتَمَامِهِ فِي الصَّوْمِ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - غَزْوًا ثَانِيًا فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " .
قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ غَزْوًا ثَالِثًا فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ هَذِهِ فَسَأَلْتُكَ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقُلْتَ : " اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ " فَسَلِمْتُ وَغَنِمْتُ ، فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ قَالَ : فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا - فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ - وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ بِتَمَامِهِ فِي الصَّوْمِ .

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began preparing for a military expedition. I came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah Almighty for martyrdom for me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, grant them spoils and keep them safe." The narrator says: We remained safe and we also obtained spoils. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began preparing for a second expedition. I came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah Almighty for martyrdom for me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed: "O Allah, keep them safe and grant them spoils." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prepared for a third military campaign, and I came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you twice before this and requested that you pray to Allah Almighty for martyrdom for me, and you said: 'O Allah, keep them safe and grant them spoils,' so I remained safe and obtained spoils." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah Almighty for martyrdom for me." The narrator says: So we remained safe and we obtained spoils. After this the narrator mentioned the complete hadith, which has already preceded in full in the Book of Fasting.
