عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " الشَّيْطَانُ يَهُمُّ بِالْوَاحِدِ وَالِاثْنَيْنِ فَإِذَا كَانُوا ثَلَاثَةً لَمْ يَهُمَّ بِهِمْ " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ وَقَدْ وُثِّقَ .

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Satan targets one or two people (during a journey), but when they are three, he does not target them."

وَعَنْ أَسْلَمَ قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ فِي سَفَرٍ فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ قَالَ لِي عُمَرُ : مَنْ صَحِبْتَ ؟ قُلْتُ : صَحِبْتُ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ . فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " أَخُوكَ الْبِكْرِيُّ وَلَا تَأْمَنْهُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ مِنْ طَرِيقِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، وَكِلَاهُمَا ضَعِيفٌ .

Aslam narrates: I went on a journey. When I returned, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: "Who was with you?" I replied: "I was with a man from Bakr bin Wa'il." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Have you not heard that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Your brother is a Bakri (i.e. from the tribe of Bakr), and you are not secure (or: safe) from him'?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat through Zayd bin Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam from his father, and both of them are da'if (weak).

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " خَيْرُ الْأَصْحَابِ أَرْبَعَةٌ ، وَخَيْرُ السَّرَايَا أَرْبَعُمِائَةٍ ، وَخَيْرُ الْجُيُوشِ أَرْبَعَةُ آلَافٍ ، وَمَا هُزِمَ قَوْمٌ بَلَغُوا اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ أَلْفًا مِنْ قِلَّةٍ إِذَا صَدَقُوا وَصَبَرُوا " .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالتِّرْمِذِيُّ خَلَا قَوْلَهُ : " صَدَقُوا وَصَبَرُوا " .

قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالتِّرْمِذِيُّ خَلَا قَوْلَهُ : " صَدَقُوا وَصَبَرُوا " .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best number of companions (on a journey) is four, the best number for a military detachment is four hundred, the best number for an army is four thousand, and people who reach twelve thousand will not be defeated because of small numbers, so long as they are truthful and patient." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi recorded this narration, but they did not record these words: "so long as they are truthful and patient."
