بَابُ مُخَالَفَةِ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فِي اللِّبَاسِ وَغَيْرِهِ .

عَنْ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ الْكُوفَةِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ " إِيَّاكُمْ وَلِبَاسَ الرُّهْبَانِ ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ تَرَهَّبَ أَوْ تَشَبَّهَ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ عَنْ شَيْخِهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Abu Karimah says: I heard Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) say, while delivering a sermon in Kufah: O people! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Beware of wearing the dress of monks! For whoever adopts monasticism (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) or imitates them, has nothing to do with me."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher Ali bin Sa'id al-Razi, and he is da'if (weak).

وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلَى مَشْيَخَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ بِيضٌ لِحَاهُمْ فَقَالَ : " يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ حَمِّرُوا وَصَفِّرُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ " قَالَ : فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَتَسَرْوَلُونَ وَلَا يَأْتَزِرُونَ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " تَسَرْوَلُوا وَائْتَزِرُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ " قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَتَخَفَّفُونَ وَلَا يَنْتَعِلُونَ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " فَتَخَفَّفُوا وَانْتَعِلُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ " فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَقُصُّونَ عَثَانِينَهُمْ وَيُوَفِّرُونَ سِبَالَهُمْ ؟ قَالَ : فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " قُصُّوا سِبَالَكُمْ وَوَفِّرُوا عَثَانِينَكُمْ وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ خَلَا الْقَاسِمِ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ ، وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ لَا يَضُرُّ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ خَلَا الْقَاسِمِ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ ، وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ لَا يَضُرُّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to some elders of the Ansar whose beards were white, and he said: "O assembly of the Ansar! Dye (the hair of your beards) red or yellow, and differ from the People of the Book." The narrator says: We said: "O Messenger of Allah, the People of the Book wear trousers and do not wear the lower wrap (izar)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wear trousers and also wear the lower wrap, and differ from the People of the Book!" We said: "O Messenger of Allah, the People of the Book wear leather socks (khuffs) and do not wear sandals." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wear leather socks and also wear sandals, and differ from the People of the Book!" We said: "O Messenger of Allah, the People of the Book trim their beards and let their moustaches grow long." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Trim your moustaches and let your beards grow, and differ from the People of the Book."

وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يَتَسَرْوَلُونَ وَلَا يَتَّزِرُونَ ؟ قَالَ : " فَتَسَرْوَلُوا أَنْتُمْ وَائْتَزِرُوا " . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يَحْتَفُّونَ وَلَا يَنْتَعِلُونَ ؟ قَالَ : " فَاحْتَفُّوا أَنْتُمْ وَانْتَعِلُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَوْلِيَاءَ الشَّيْطَانِ بِكُلِّ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ " .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The people said: "O Messenger of Allah, the polytheists wear trousers (or pyjamas) and do not wear the lower wrap (izar)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should wear trousers and also tie the lower wrap!" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, the polytheists go barefoot and do not wear sandals." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should go barefoot and also wear sandals! But differ from the friends of Satan as much as you are able."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from Ali bin Sa'id al-Razi, and he is da'if (weak). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: some hadith of this kind will come later in the chapter on "Adab" (manners), if Allah wills.
