Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were on a journey and could not find water. After some time we came upon water, and the people began offering water to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Whenever the people brought the drink to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who gives the people drink (drinks himself) last." He said this three times, until all of them had drunk the water. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud recorded only this part of it: "The one who gives the people drink is the last of them (to drink himself)."

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) halted at a place. A woman sent a goat to him with her son. He milked it and said: Take this milk to your mother! The woman drank that milk until she was satisfied. Then the boy brought another goat; he milked it and then gave that milk to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to drink. Then he brought yet another goat, and he milked it and drank himself.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and the narrator Ibn Abi Layla did not hear from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and Allah knows best.
