Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Acquire knowledge of the Qur'an and teach it to the people; acquire knowledge and teach it to the people; learn the science of inheritance and teach it to the people, for I am a man who will depart from this world, and knowledge will soon be taken away, until two men will differ about an inheritance share and will not find anyone to inform them (of the correct ruling)."
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Acquire knowledge of the Qur'an and teach it to the people; learn the science of inheritance and teach it to the people. Soon a time will come upon the people when two men will dispute about an inheritance share and will not find anyone who can judge between them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Uqbah al-Sadusi, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak), and a narrator, Sa'id bin Abi Ka'b, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in his book "al-Thiqat". The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Whoever among you reads the Qur'an should also acquire knowledge of the science of inheritance, for if a Bedouin meets him and says: O Muhajir, do you have knowledge of the Qur'an? He will answer: Yes. The Bedouin will say: I too can read it. Then the Bedouin will ask: O Muhajir, do you know the science of inheritance? If he answers: Yes, the Bedouin will say: This is an additional merit and something better. But if the Muhajir says: I do not know about it, the Bedouin will say: O Muhajir, what superiority do you have over me?
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Muhajir bin Kathir al-San'ani, and he is da'if (weak).

Al-Qasim bin Abd al-Rahman says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Learn the science of inheritance, for soon a man will be in need of knowledge that he used to know, or else he will end up among a people who have no knowledge.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and it is munqati' (its chain is broken).

Abu al-Zinad says that he obtained this letter from Kharijah, the son of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him): "Seeking blessing through the name of Allah Almighty, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is from Zayd bin Thabit to the servant of Allah and Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah. Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful, and may the mercy of Allah Almighty descend upon you. I praise before you Allah, besides whom there is no god. To proceed: You have asked me about the inheritance of the grandfather, the brothers and kalalah, and about many other matters on which rulings are given and whose details are not known. After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we were present at such matters in the presence of the caliphs, and from them we retained what we wished to retain. Now, after that, whoever asks us for a ruling concerning inheritance, we give him a fatwa accordingly."
Al-Tabarani recorded it as "wijadah" (from a found written source); its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad, whom al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while the majority declared him da'if (weak).
