Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not appoint any judge, nor did Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), nor did Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), except that in the last period of his caliphate he said to Yazid, the sister's son of Yumn: "Relieve me of some matters," meaning, settle the minor matters yourself.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not make anyone a judge. The first to appoint a judge was Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "Keep the people away from me in matters of a dirham or two dirhams" (that is, you settle them).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness, though his hadith is hasan (good), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: It has already been mentioned before this that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) to give judgment in his presence, and it has also been reported that the same happened with Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him).
