Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the people of Quba requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to build a mosque for them, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let one of you get up and ride the she-camel." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and mounted her. He urged her on, but the she-camel did not rise, so he came back and sat down. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and mounted her. He urged her on, but she did not rise, so he came back and sat down. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Let one of you get up and ride the she-camel." Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) got up, and when he put his foot in the stirrup, the she-camel stood up with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali, leave her rein loose, and build (the mosque) at the place where she settles, for she is under command."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Yahya bin Ya'la al-Aslami, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyidah al-Shumus bint al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, I looked at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He dismounted from his mount and laid the foundation of this mosque, that is, the Mosque of Quba. I saw him carrying stones until the stone made him bend over, and I saw the whiteness of the dust on his stomach (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) on his navel. One of his Companions came and said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! Give it to me; I will do this work in your place." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! You take another stone like it," until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had its foundation laid. He said: "Jibril is indicating the direction of the Ka'bah." The narrator says: So it used to be said that this mosque has the most accurate qiblah direction.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution (wudu) and does it well, then enters the Mosque of Quba and prays four rak'ahs in it, that will be equal to freeing a slave."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
Ibn Majah and others recorded it, and they reported the words: "It will be equal to performing Umrah," whereas here the words are: "It will be equal to freeing a slave."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah, who is da'if (weak).
