Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encamped at Marr al-Zahran during the Umrah, the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned that Quraysh were saying: "These people will not even be able to get up because of weakness." His Companions said: "If we were to slaughter our riding animals, eat their meat and drink their broth, then the next day, when we appear before these people, our bodies would be vigorous." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do that; rather, gather your provisions before me." They gathered them before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), spread out a dining cloth, ate the food and went back, and each one of them also filled his bag. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came (to Makkah) until he entered the Mosque. Quraysh were sitting on the side of the Hatim. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrapped his cloak in the manner of idtiba' and then said: "Let these people not see any weakness in you." Then he touched the corner, then he entered (the circuit), until, when he was hidden behind the Yamani corner, he went on at a normal walking pace. Quraysh said: "They are not content with walking; they are running like deer!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did this in three rounds, and so it became a Sunnah. The narrator named Abu al-Tufayl narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) told me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did this on the occasion of the Farewell Hajj.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, and this narration is transmitted in the Sahih in abridged form; the narrators of Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.
