Mus'ab al-Makki narrates: I met Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him), and I heard them relate that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the night of the cave, Allah Almighty commanded a tree, and it sprang up in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and concealed him. Allah Almighty commanded the spider, and it wove a web in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and concealed him. Allah Almighty commanded two wild doves, and they settled at the mouth of the cave. Young men of Quraysh, from every clan, came with their sticks, their clubs and their swords, until, when they were at a distance of forty cubits from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), one of them hurried ahead and looked into the cave; he saw two doves at the mouth of the cave. He went back to his companions, and his companions asked: What is the matter? He replied: I have seen two doves at the mouth of the cave, from which I knew that there is no one here. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard what he said and knew that Allah Almighty had turned them away from him by means of those doves. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for them (the doves), invoked blessing upon them, prescribed a compensation for them, and they were settled in the Haram."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. As for the narrator Mus'ab al-Makki and the one who narrates from him, namely Uwayn bin Amr al-Qaysi, I have not found anyone who gives an account of either of them. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) says (the narrator says: I think he narrated it as a "marfu'" hadith): If a person in ihram harms a hyena, he ruled that a sheep be given; for harming a rabbit, a she-goat less than a year old; for harming a jerboa (an animal like a rat), a four-month-old lamb (or kid); and for harming a deer, a ram. He gave this ruling regarding it.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Ajlah al-Kindi, about whom there has been criticism, although he has been declared trustworthy.

Qabisah bin Jabir narrates: I was in a state of ihram. I saw a deer and shot an arrow at it, and it struck the root of its horn; then it ran off swiftly. This troubled my mind, so I came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him about it. I saw a man beside him who was fair-complexioned with a very gentle face; he was Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about it. He turned to Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Do you think one sheep will suffice for him? He replied: Yes. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered me to slaughter a sheep. The narrator says: When we got up from him, a companion of mine said: The Commander of the Faithful could not give you a proper fatwa until he first asked another man. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard some of his words and beat him with his whip. Then he came towards me to strike me, and I said: O Commander of the Faithful, I did not say anything; this man said it. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) left me, and then said: You want to kill game in the sacred state and then transgress the fatwa? Then he said: A person may have ten traits, nine of them good and one bad, and that one bad trait spoils them. Then he said: Beware lest all ten (traits) be bad.

In one narration the wording is: He turned towards that man, and by Allah, the face of that man was like a heart.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
