عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صُومُوا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ وَخَالِفُوا فِيهِ الْيَهُودَ ، صُومُوا يَوْمًا قَبْلَهُ أَوْ يَوْمًا بَعْدَهُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fast on the day of Ashura, and differ from the Jews regarding it: fast one day before it or one day after it as well."

وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِصِيَامِ عَاشُورَاءَ يَوْمَ الْعَاشِرِ .

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that the fast of Ashura be kept on the tenth day.
