Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When he sent officials to collect zakah, he instructed them that once they had collected the zakah, they should give it to the close relatives of those from whom the zakah had been collected, in order of priority; if there were no close relatives, then to the other members of the clan; then they should give it to the needy among their neighbours and others.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Abd al-Rahman al-Waqqasi, who is da'if (weak).

Mutarrif bin Abdullah bin al-Shikhkhir reports from one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who was the governor of Kufah: One day, while delivering a sermon, he said: Giving away this wealth is a trial, and holding it back is also a trial. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained occupied with it (that is, with distributing it) until he finished, then he came down from the pulpit.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Abu al-Fayd narrates: I was present with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he gave Sayyiduna al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) a donkey. Then one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whose name was Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him), stood up and said: "Why have you accepted it? And what right does Mu'awiyah have to give it to you? It is as if I am looking at you right now, that on the Day of Resurrection you will be carrying it on your neck with its head hanging down."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. The narrator Abu al-Fayd did not reach the time of Sayyiduna al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) did not reach the time of the caliphate of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him).
