Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in my house when a man came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! How much is the zakah on such-and-such a thing?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is such-and-such." He said: "Then so-and-so has wronged us." The narrator says: When they investigated, they found that he had taken one sa' too much. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What will your state be when a collector comes to you who will wrong you more severely than this wrong?"
Ahmad recorded it in this way. Al-Tabarani recorded these additional words in this narration: "He will wrong you more than this wrong. Then those people became greatly distressed, and this statement troubled them, until one of them said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What will happen when a man is away from you among his camels, his livestock and his fields, and he pays the zakah of his wealth and is then wronged; what should he do at that time, while he is not present with you?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever pays the zakah of his wealth with a willing heart, intending by it the pleasure of Allah Almighty and the attainment of the Hereafter, and does not conceal anything of his wealth, and establishes the prayer and pays the zakah, and is then wronged in a matter of right, then if he takes up his weapon and fights and is killed, he will be counted a martyr.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the narrators of all of them are the narrators of the Sahih.

Jarir bin Hazim narrates: At the shop platform of Ayyub, an elderly man came and sat with us. He heard the people conversing, and he said: My master narrated a hadith to me from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I asked him: "What is his name?" He replied: Sayyiduna Qurrah bin Du'mus al-Numayri (may Allah be pleased with him). He narrates: I came to Madinah and presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and people were around him. I began trying to get close to him but was unable to, so I called out to him loudly: "O Messenger of Allah! Seek forgiveness for the boy from Numayr!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty forgive you." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna al-Dahhak bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) as a zakah collector. When he returned, he came back with fine camels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You went to Hilal bin Amir, Numayr bin Amir and Amir bin Rabi'ah and took the best of their wealth?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I heard you mentioning a military expedition, so I liked to bring you fine camels so that you could ride them and give them as mounts." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah! What you left behind is dearer to me than what you have taken. Return them, and take from the middle grade of their wealth and their charities." The narrator says: I heard the Muslims call those camels "al-Masann al-Mujahidat" (the old warrior camels).
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Salim bin Abi Umayyah Abu al-Nadr narrates: An elderly man from Banu Tamim sat with me in the mosque of Basrah, and he had a document in his hand. The narrator says: This was in the time of al-Hajjaj. He said to me: "O servant of Allah! Do you think this document can be of any use to me before this ruler?" I said: "What is this document?" He said: "This is a letter of the Messenger of Allah, which he wrote for us, that we should not be wronged regarding our zakah." The narrator says: I said: "By Allah! I do not think it will be of any use to you. But what is the story of this document?" That man said: I came to Madinah with my father when I was a boy; we had brought our camels, which we wanted to sell. My father was a friend of Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah al-Taymi (may Allah be pleased with him). We stopped in Madinah, and my father said to him: "Come with me and get these camels of mine sold." He said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden that a town-dweller sell something on behalf of a desert-dweller. However, I will go with you and sit, and you offer your camels; when you are satisfied with a man who is offering you a price to your liking, I will instruct you to sell to him." The narrator says: We went to the market and stood our animals, and Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) sat nearby. Various people bargained with us, until, when a man agreed to give us a price that pleased us, my father asked him: "Shall I sell to him?" Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Sell it to him; I am satisfied with his payment for you; make the deal with him." So we made the deal with that man. When we had taken possession of our money and finished our business, my father said to Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Get me a document from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that we should not be wronged regarding our zakah." He said: "This right belongs to you and to every Muslim." My father said: "(I want) to have a document from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with me." The narrator says: So he set out, until he brought us to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! This man is a resident of the desert and is a friend of mine. He wants to have a document stating that he should not be wronged regarding his zakah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This right belongs to him and to every Muslim." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! He wants to have a document from you about this." The narrator says: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had this document written for us.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded from this narration only the part concerning a town-dweller selling something on behalf of a desert-dweller,
narrated from Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him). Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
