Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reports the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Allah Almighty loves silence on three occasions: at the recitation of the Qur'an, on the battlefield, and at a funeral."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) attended a funeral, signs of sorrow would be visible on him, and he would mostly be lost in his own thoughts (i.e. he would not converse with others).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and there is criticism about him. Allamah al-Haythami says: I say: Various reports on this subject will come in the chapter on "Virtues" and in the chapter on what is to be said when the deceased is placed in the grave.
