Sayyiduna al-Agharr al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever is overtaken by the morning without having prayed the Witr, there is no Witr for him any longer."
Al-Bazzar recorded it from Salih bin Mu'adh al-Baghdadi, who is his teacher; I do not know him. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna al-Agharr al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Prophet of Allah! Morning has come and I could not pray the Witr." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Witr is prayed at night." He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Morning has come and I could not pray the Witr." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then pray the Witr!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its narrators have been declared trustworthy, although some of them have been criticized, but that criticism is not harmful.
Abu Nahik narrates: Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him), while addressing the people in a sermon, said: "Whoever is overtaken by the (true) dawn has no Witr." Some men from among the believers went to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and told her about this, and she said: "the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray the Witr even at the time of (true) dawn."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! May the Witr be prayed after the adhan of Fajr?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray the Witr before the adhan." The narrator says: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the adhan was given after the true dawn had broken. The people said: "May the Witr be prayed after the adhan?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray the Witr before the adhan." The people asked a third time: "May the Witr be prayed after the adhan?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray the Witr after the adhan." (The narrator says:) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them a concession. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded a hadith from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) about making up the Witr, but it is other than this hadith.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Yusuf bin Khalid al-Samti, who is da'if (weak).
Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) would pray the Witr after the true dawn had broken, and my father (Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam, may Allah be pleased with him) would pray the Witr before the true dawn.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
Urwah bin Mas'ud says: I do not mind if the tathwib is being called for the Fajr prayer while I am still reciting my daily portion (wird) and have not yet prayed the Witr.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. Others besides him also gave this fatwa; by that I mean Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
