وَعَنِ الْأَغَرِّ الْمُزَنِيِّ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ وَلَمْ أُوتِرْ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا الْوِتْرُ بِاللَّيْلِ " ، فَقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ وَلَمْ أُوتِرْ قَالَ : " فَأَوْتِرْ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي بَعْضِهِمْ كَلَامٌ لَا يَضُرُّ .

Sayyiduna al-Agharr al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Prophet of Allah! Morning has come and I could not pray the Witr." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Witr is prayed at night." He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Morning has come and I could not pray the Witr." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then pray the Witr!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its narrators have been declared trustworthy, although some of them have been criticized, but that criticism is not harmful.
