Sayyiduna Abu Khayrah al-Subahi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was in the delegation of people who came into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us branches of the arak tree as provision so that we could use them as miswak. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have sticks back home, but we accept your kindness and your gift." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive the people of Abd al-Qays, for they accepted Islam willingly, not under compulsion, while some people do not accept Islam except after being humiliated and subdued."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best miswak is from the olive, which is from a blessed tree. It cleans the mouth and removes cavities, and it is my miswak and the miswak of the Prophets before me."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Mu'allil bin Muhammad, and I have not found anyone who mentions him.
