Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Had I not heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying, "It is fitting that we enlarge our mosque," I would not have enlarged it (in the rebuilding of the Prophet's Mosque).
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, though (Abu Ya'la) transmitted the words: "We want to enlarge our qiblah (that is, to extend the mosque)." Al-Bazzar recorded it, though his wording is: "I want to enlarge your qiblah (that is, to extend the mosque)." Its chain contains Abdullah al-Umari, whom Ahmad and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), and there is disagreement about using him as evidence. The chain of Ahmad is munqati' (broken) between Nafi' and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).

Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people of the Ansar who were building a mosque, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Make your mosque spacious and fill it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Muhammad bin Dirham, from whom Shababah bin Sawwar narrated, and he said: "He is thiqah (trustworthy)." Yahya bin Ma'in and al-Daraqutni declared him da'if (weak).
