Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to appoint me as the imam of my people, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Lead the prayer according to the prayer of the weakest of those present, and do not take as mu'adhdhin someone who accepts payment for his adhan."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir through Sa'd al-Qut'i from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him), and I have not found anyone who mentions him (that is, Sa'd al-Qut'i).

Yahya al-Bakka narrates: A man said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "I love you for the sake of Allah Almighty." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "But I detest you for the sake of Allah Almighty." The man asked: "Why is that?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The reason is that you sing your adhan and you accept payment for it."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Yahya al-Bakka, whom Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Zur'ah, Imam Abu Hatim and Imam Abu Dawud declared da'if (weak). Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan called him thiqah (trustworthy), and Muhammad bin Sa'd says: He was thiqah, if Allah wills.
