عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي فَقَالَ : " صَلِّ بِصَلَاةِ أَضْعَفِ الْقَوْمِ ، وَلَا تَتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ مِنْ طَرِيقِ سَعْدٍ الْقُطَعِيِّ عَنْهُ وَلَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ ذَكَرَهُ .

Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to appoint me as the imam of my people, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Lead the prayer according to the prayer of the weakest of those present, and do not take as mu'adhdhin someone who accepts payment for his adhan."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir through Sa'd al-Qut'i from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him), and I have not found anyone who mentions him (that is, Sa'd al-Qut'i).
