Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O people! Knowledge comes only through learning, and understanding comes only through learning. Whomever Allah Almighty intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion. And of the servants of Allah Almighty, it is the scholars who fear Allah Almighty."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the narrator named Utbah bin Abi Hakim was declared thiqah (trustworthy) by Imam Abu Hatim, Imam Abu Zur'ah and Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on them), though a group declared him da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Knowledge comes through learning, and forbearance comes through practising forbearance. Whoever strives to attain good is given it, and whoever guards himself against evil is protected from it. Whoever has three things in him will not dwell in the high ranks, and I do not say to you (that he will not dwell) in Paradise: whoever practises soothsaying, or seeks omens by divining arrows, or turns back from a journey on account of an evil omen."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin Abi Yazid, and he is kadhdhab (a liar).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "Make it binding on yourselves to learn this Qur'an, for it is the banquet of Allah Almighty. Whoever among you is able to take something from this banquet should do so, for knowledge comes only through learning."
Al-Bazzar recorded it within a long hadith, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
