Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah reports this statement of his father: I set out with my father, intending to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Somewhere on the way we passed by a tribe and stopped there to spend the night. A shepherd came running to the people of the tribe and said: I will not graze your animals, because every night the wolf comes and takes away a goat, while the idol watches but neither objects nor changes anything. Those people said: Stay with us! The narrator says: I think the narration also has these words: We will go to this idol. Those people came to the idol and said something around it. Then they said to the shepherd: Stay tonight! The shepherd said: I will stay tonight, so that I may see what happens. The narrator relates: We also stayed there that night. The next day, at the time of the morning prayer, the shepherd came running towards the people of the village and began saying to them: Good news! Have you not seen that the wolf was lying tied up in front of the goats without any fetter? Then those people came, and we went along with them. The narrator relates: Then he said: Very well, keep doing like this! The narrator relates: When we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), my father told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this incident, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Satan toys with these people."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and it revolves around the narrator named Azhar bin Sinan, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared da'if (weak); Ibn Adi says: His narrations are acceptable and not very munkar (objectionable).

This narration is also reported from him; he relates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent, I set out from my area (to accept Islam). My intention was to enter Islam along with two (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words are:) three men. I came to a water place (a pond or the like) where people were gathered together. The village shepherd, who used to graze their goats, came before me and said: I will not graze your goats. Those people asked: Why? He said: Every night the wolf comes and takes away a goat, while our idol stands there; it neither harms nor benefits, neither changes anything nor objects. The narrator relates: Those people went back, and I hoped that they would become Muslims. The next morning the shepherd came running and said: What good news! What good news! The wolf was brought and now it is lying tied up in front of the goats. The narrator relates: I also went with those people. They kissed the idol and prostrated to it and said: (From now on) keep doing just this. The narrator relates: When I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this incident, he said: "Satan has toyed with these people."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and the discussion about this narration has already preceded it.

Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: My family sent with me a bowl of milk and butter to their gods. I took it along, and I was afraid that if I ate anything from it (I would come to harm). I put it down, and then a dog came, drank the milk, ate the butter, and even urinated on the idol.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

It is also narrated from him: He was among those who took part in building the Ka'bah in the period of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). He relates: I had a stone that I had carved with my own hand, and, leaving Allah Almighty aside, I used to worship it. I would bring milk for it, milk that I had set aside for it in preference to myself, and I would pour that milk over the idol. Then a dog would come and lick it, then it would raise its leg and urinate. After this the narrator related the whole hadith; this complete narration will come in the chapter on the building of the Ka'bah.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
