Sayyidah Atikah bint Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I saw (in a dream) that a rider took a rock from Mount Abu Qubays and threw it towards the Black Stone. The rock hung (that is, was suspended), and then a fragment of it entered every single household of Quraysh; only in the quarter of Banu Zuhrah did it not enter. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said (after hearing this dream): "Keep this dream hidden; do not mention it." Then Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) went out and met al-Walid bin Utbah bin Rabi'ah, and he mentioned this dream to him. Al-Walid mentioned this dream to his father, and so the matter spread. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I went out to perform tawaf of the Ka'bah, and Abu Jahl was sitting among some men of Quraysh, talking about Atikah's dream. When Abu Jahl saw me, he said: "O Abu al-Fadl, when you have finished your tawaf, come over to us." When I finished the tawaf, I came and sat with them. Abu Jahl said: "O Banu Abd al-Muttalib, were you not content that your men claimed prophethood, that now the situation is that your women too have begun to claim prophethood? Atikah has related about her dream that he (the rider) said: 'March out within three days.' So we will wait for these three days. If what she says is true, it will come to pass, and if the three days pass and nothing of the sort appears, we will have a document written against you that you are the most lying household among the Arabs." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah, at that time I had no recourse other than to deny this and reject that she (that is, Atikah) had seen anything. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When evening came, a woman from among the daughters of Abd al-Muttalib came to me and said: "Are you content with this wicked man, that he spoke ill of your men and then spoke ill of your women too, while you kept listening and had no way of objecting? By Allah, had Hamzah been there, he would not have said what he said." I said: "By Allah, he did do that, and I had no way of objecting to it. By Allah, now I will go to him, and if he says such a thing again, I will answer him on your behalf." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: On the third day after Atikah's dream I went, and I was angry that a matter had slipped from me of which I wished I had obtained something. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah, I was heading towards him. He was a lean man, with a sharp face, a sharp tongue and sharp eyesight. When he came out towards the mosque (that is, the Sacred Mosque), he was leaning on something. I thought to myself: "What is the matter with him, may Allah curse him? Is he afraid of me, that I will revile him?" But in fact he had heard something that I had not heard. He had heard the voice of Damdam bin Zur'ah bin Amr al-Ghifari, who had cried out in the low-lying part of Makkah. He had cut his camel's nose, overturned his saddle and torn his shirt, and he was saying: "O company of Quraysh! Muhammad has come out with his companions, and I do not think you will reach it in time. Help! Help!" Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So my attention was diverted from him, and his attention from me, because of the matter that had arisen.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Aziz bin Imran, who is matruk (abandoned).
