Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) arrival among us (in Madinah) was delayed. The Ansar would go out in the morning to the stony ground and remain sitting there until the day had risen; when the day had risen and the heat of the sun grew intense, they would return to their homes. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were waiting for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man from among the Jews, who had climbed up onto a tall building, shouted at the top of his voice: "O company of Arabs! Here comes your master, whom you have been waiting for!" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We heard a commotion in the area of Banu Amr bin Awf. I put my head out and saw that the Muslims were putting on their weapons. The day had risen, and I too went out with the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the right, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) halted in the area of Banu Amr bin Awf.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Zayd bin Aslam, whom Abu Hatim and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Yahya bin Ma'in and others called him da'if (weak).
