وَعَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَ مُعَاوِيَةَ حِينَ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عِقَالًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْسِمَ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اتْرُكْهُ حَتَّى يُقْسَمَ - أَوْ نَقْسِمَ - ثُمَّ إِنْ شِئْتَ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ عِقَالًا وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَعْطَيْنَاكَ مِرَارًا " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَفِيهِ رَاوٍ لَمْ يُسَمَّ .

It is reported about Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he informed Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), when Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him about the man who had asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a rope before the spoils of war were divided, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave it until it is divided (or: until we divide it). Then, if you wish, we will give you a rope, and if you wish, we will give you ropes."
