عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَوْ كَانَ ثَابِتٌ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ رِقٌّ كَانَ الْيَوْمَ إِنَّمَا هُوَ أُسَارٌ وَفِدَاءٌ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَفِيهِ يَزِيدُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ وَهُوَ كَذَّابٌ .

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If slavery were established over any one of the Arabs, then today they would be either captives or held for ransom."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration. Its chain contains a narrator, Yazid bin Iyad, and he is kadhdhab (a liar).
