عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ مِثْلَهُ ، وَمَتْنُهُ قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : أَخْرُجُ مَعَكَ عَلَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِي سَهْمًا مِنَ الْمَغْنَمِ ثُمَّ قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي أَتَغْنَمُونَ أَمْ لَا ؟ وَلَكِنِ اجْعَلْ لِي سَهْمًا مَعْلُومًا، فَجُعِلَتْ لَهُ ثَلَاثَةُ دَنَانِيرَ فَغَزَوْنَا فَأَصَبْنَا مَغْنَمًا فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَا أَجِدُ لَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا دَنَانِيرَهُ هَذِهِ الثَّلَاثَةَ الَّتِي أَخَذَهَا " .

Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a report from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whose text is this. He narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on a military expedition. A man said: "I will go with you on the condition that you give me the share that comes from the spoils of war." Then that man said: "By Allah, I do not even know whether you will get anything from the spoils of war or not! Fix a definite payment for me." The narrator says: So three dinars were fixed for him. We took part in the battle and obtained spoils of war. I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I find nothing for this man in this world and the Hereafter except the three dinars that he has received."
